SHEZA A DUN DUCHESS aka "DUTCHESS"

1999 Reg'd Dun Quarterhorse Mare
Welcome to Dutchess and Bailey, our reg'd QH mare and filly. They came to us from the Bisson's of Peace River. Dutchess is a Dun and Bailey is a Grulla (and that just so happens to be my favourite color). Both mare and filly are very well bred with reining and cowhorse pedigrees. Duchess has had 6 foals to date by the same stud (Misty's Charlie Major by Doc Star Lynx) and 3 of them have been Grulla, 2 Duns and 1 brown. We are giving her this year off and going to get her started under saddle. She has a great mind and all her foals have been easy to start and train.

Well, we started Dutchess' saddle training today and she took to the saddle so easily that we decided to see how she would react with a rider in the saddle....so, Kim helped me out because I'm no where near ready to attempt to ride an unbroke 9 yr old mare....lol. Dutchess was a doll and didn't so much as snort! Officially, she has had her first ride today....July 26, 2008. Click here to see a video clip of her FIRST RIDE. July 27, 2008.....Dutchess had her second ride and this time a bit and headstall were worn. Loose leadrope and all was good. Soon she'll be in the roundpen with rider on her own. If she keeps up with her training I may not want to part with her. Stay tuned for much more on this beautiful and talented mare! *************************************** September 1, 2009 - Update - The good news is I've decided to keep Dutchess and have her bred in the Spring of 2009. I've found a great well-papered regostered homozygous grully tobiano paint with loads of dun factor and between the two of them the resulting foal will be amazing! Guaranteed tobiano and almost a 100% chance of a dun (zebra or grulla). Can you imagine? A reining/cutting bred dun paint? I can't wait now till 2010 for that foal to be born!! Dutchess will also continue her training under saddle in the Spring of 2009 just prior to being bred, then once confirmed in foal, her training will continue on a modified level. Our goal is to have a dual purpose mare....one that can be ridden and used as a broodmare.
