Georgia was born in 2000 and comes to us on November 17, 2007 from Candice Miller of Delta, British Columbia. She was used for beginner adult, child and special needs lessons as well as doubling as an outside riding horse when the need arose. She rides both English and Western and is extremely well-mannered, trained and patient. I had the privilege of trying Georgia out when I went to see her and I can't stress enough how amazing this girl is! I'd never been in an English saddle before and was nervous and as we all know, horses can sense that. Georgia didn't miss a beat and simply waited for me to get comfy and we did a little walk around the arena. She listened to me like an old pro and walked nice and slow, very controlled and then when asked to stop, she did so in a very nice manner. She parked herself until I asked her to move again with not so much as a twitch while she was awaiting my next cue. Thanks to Brian Baldry of Fort St. John, British Columbia for transporting this special girl all the way up north for me. She was very happy and healthy and I would highly recommend Brian for anyone's transport needs.
My plans are to provide Georgia with a loving, caring semi-retirement home where she will become my riding horse and companion. I will be spending a lot of quality time with her on the ground thru the winter so that she gets used to the snow and the other horses as well as the farm machinery, dogs and cats. She is a very forward mare and does not seem to shy away from much. She was a little confused by all the snow and did a lot of digging and snorting at it when she first arrived but she seems to have "made friends" with it and now it is no bother to her.

Well, we had a nice "warm" day here on December 16, 2007 (-11) so I took off Georgia's blanket and let her get some sun....she loved it! She has adapted extremely well and seems to love the farm. She has adopted "Ruby" and "Angel" (weanling and yearling fillies) as her own and is very protective of them....chasing away any of the other horses that come to the fence for a visit. In the early spring we'll be introducing a new adult horse every week into her paddock so that she can get to know the rest of them and establish her spot in the pecking order......however, I am almost positive that she will be the lead horse ..... I think the only one that might give her a little run for her money may be Samantha (our boarded 24 yr old mare) who has always been the "head gal". Only time will tell and they will work it out I'm sure.

A beautiful day today....February 18, 2008 and I was able to spend some great quality time with Georgia. Yesterday we sold Georgia's "adopted" filly and Georgia was very sad...it's funny how they get so attached to each other. We have taken her blanket off now and hopefully we won't need to put it on again...lol. We went for a nice walk down the road together and I introduced her to the deep snow in the ditches. Then we did some trotting in hand and some nice leading. I introduced her to the tractor and took her around the yard to show her the different vehicles that are here. She was very curious, a bit unsure, but never spooked. She has never been on a farm before so there is a lot for her to take in before I get riding her. We have put Dakota in to keep Georgia company and to teach Georgia how to interact with other adult horses. Dakota was a gem and today she was letting Georgia eat out of the same hay bale as her. Dakota seems very happy to have made a new friend.

February 23, 2008 and the kids and I worked with Georgia under saddle. I couldn't believe it when Brandon actually let me drop the lead rope and then Brandon rode Georgia around the yard. Brandon doesn't like horses all that much but he liked Georgia he said...."for a horse"...LOL. Notice....no feet in the stirups....lol. Clayton worked Georgia a little more taking her down our driveway....kittens following the whole way....and then around the yardsite. She was a doll and maybe tomorrow I'll have time to actually get on her myself!!

Yea!! I got to ride my girl! We have been riding up and down the road and she is doing awesome. I am very comfortable on her and she is taking her time with me. She is not herdbound at all and listens wonderfully. She is a little cautious going up the road as it is all new territory for her. She loves coming home....lol....so I make sure we walk all the way back so she doesn't think she can "take off" towards home. I have had her in a nice trot.....no lope yet until our snow is gone!
