| Well, I guess Paws is now our newest addition.....she is a grade Paint/Shetland Pony filly born April 2006. Her Sire was a black and white Paint and Dam was a Pinto Shetland Pony. When we went to pick up Reggie from Lana Robinson's in Peace River we got a chance to meet Paws and I just loved her. We were not in the position to bring her home with us that day but I sure wished we could have. The great news is that we were able to since purchase her from Lana as she was still available and Paws will be coming home to our farm on May 3, 2008. She is very friendly and loves attention. She has all the indications that she is homozygous for the tobiano gene and I will be taking a hair sample and sending it off to verify that. She got her name from the "paw" prints on her sides. She should mature to about 12.2-13hh and our plan is to work with her the "natural" way and turn her into a wonderful youth/child mount. I'm hoping that this will be my first horse that I actually train to accept a rider. I can't wait till we get her home!! |

Update May 18, 2008 - Paws has just started her groundwork and is coming along great! She is extremely athletic and can run circles around some of our full size horses...lol. We have been working on our bombproofing and today we had some fun in the roundpen. We added plastic bags in the wind for noise and a plastic bag on the lunge whip. It was a little nerve wracking but after a few minutes Paws accepted the bags with no problems. Then for some extra fun we put up a small 12" jump and she loved it....it was like jumping was a reward for the good behavior with the plastic bags! Stay tuned as we continue our bombproofing and groundwork. Youtube videos will be here shortly!! |
